Yesterday, June 17, 2017, I went to Olympia’s Pride Parade and Festival. Initially, I didn’t plan on taking these pictures, or even writing this post. But the diversity, and sense of community truly motivated me. From the minute we got there, the energy was through the roof. We started towards the end of the parade route, and by the time we got there it was almost over. But what we did get to see was the beginning of a wonderful day. There were lots of political promotions, but mostly supporters and allies. Afterwards, we went to the festival. We watched drag performances for a good 30 minutes, sitting in the wet grass, but all the while living it UP. The drag queens were so much more than motivational. I envy the confidence these ladies have. After the drag performances, I got to take a look at all the different people there. It wasn’t just a stereotype anymore, but hundreds upon hundreds of unique individuals, just being proud and confident. Although I didn’t get to take as many pictures as I would have liked (due to the weather, I didn’t want my camera to get wet), I still had a great time getting the picture of the different people. The energy was great, the people were great, everything was great. Thanks Oly Pride, I’ll see you next year.
